Sustainability has and is teaching me many things, one being the ability to investigate hard topics and come out with an understand of the author's point of view, and a better understanding. Going through the process of writing a research paper I was able to connect my learnings to the University Studies goal of, Inquiry Critical Thinking. After finding my own research topic that related to climate change, forming a question and finding educated sources that related to the topic, I formed an understanding of what it entails to be actively involved in investigation. When writing my research paper on Ocean acidification impact on the U.S. economy, I learned how to productively and effectively research a topic and learn about it while also judging the author's credibility. Climate change as whole requires a great deal of critical thinking, however the topic of Ocean Acidification contains a lot of scientific information that requires understanding on a deeper and more educated level. In addition, while forming arguments about the topic I was able to become aware of an issue that we are facing that I otherwise would not have known about. The research paper did not only teach me how to become a better writer, but it also taught me the importance of delving into research. In the creation of this paper, I feel I embodied the goal of critical thinking because most of the sources I used were heavy in scientific terms, which required me to grow as a thinker. I learned to take advantage of the resources that are available and have since become a more driven student in the aspect of striving to know more.Through struggling through the sources, reading more scientific sources I improved on my critical reading abilities, thereby improving my critical thinking. Researching topics that relate to the Climate change crisis is something very important in our modern world, something that should be used as ammunition for change and knowledge gained. Writing a research paper on climate change forced you to enter a world of knowledge that I found to be extremely inspiring to learn about. I was amazed by the amount of works that are in our world and felt that not reading them, or learning from them would be a shame. After the research paper, I became a more active learner, by searching out information about subjects that I find to be useful. I was able to find connections from my research to the University Studies goal of Inquiry Critical Thinking. This goal is something that I have been able to relate to after and during conducting research. Through problem posing, I am now able to properly become up to date and aware of what is needed to succeed in an academic environment. Much of the process of creating a research question required for me to do what the Inquiry Critical Thinking goal entails, for example conceptualizing an idea from texts or from reading and turning it into a thoughtful paper.
